18-year-old finds out her stepdad spent her $15,000 inheritance her grandmother left her for college on a motorcycle, aunt shows up for her with a lawyer: 'He'd be lucky if he only got sued…'

This stepdad thought he was above the law and decided to take his stepdaughter's inheritance money. Little did he know that the law was on the side of his stepdaughter.

When this woman was 12 years old, her grandmother passed and left her $15,000 in a savings bond, strictly for her to use on her education. However, that was about six years ago. Now 18 years old, she is ready to start her higher education journey. When she asked her mother about the money, she said that it actually "depreciated" in value and was now only worth $8,000. Upsetting, but this teenager had no idea how savings bonds and the economy worked, so she just said "oh well" and carried on.

However, one day when she was home, she found a letter addressed to her stepdad left open on the counter. Upon further inspection, she saw that her full government name was on it. What in tarnation could this be?

Well, it turns out her stepdad used her inheritance money on a brand new motorcycle. How? Isn't that illegal? Well, her mom, the trustee, took the money out for him to use on a new furnace. At least, that's what she thought he was using it on. Turns out he felt entitled to a motorcycle because he kept a roof over his stepdaughter's head…

Dude, that's illegal.

The mother was confused, but still defending her husband. The daughter was heartbroken and enraged. Not only is she now out of money for college, she has to deal with the fact that her mother LIED to her and her stepfather STOLE from her!
She called her aunt (her mother's sister) and she also could no believe it. So she came over with her husband and really laid it on them. Told them that what they did was unforgivable and illegal. She took her niece back home with her and told her that they were calling the police to make a report and hiring a lawyer to get ever cent back.
"AITA for reporting my stepdad after he stole my $15K inheritance for a Harley, registered it in my name for cheaper insurance, then said I should be 'grateful'?"

Did she get the money back? That is still unknown. But we do know that what her mom and stepdad did was completely illegal. However, she does now have a motorcycle in her name, so she could also legally take that bike and sell it. That's IF she doesn't get any money back from the trial, which it seems likely she will.
This was not the step dad who stepped up, he most definitely stepped down, way down.
